About Sfântu Gheorghe
Far from the world's bustle, at the end of the journey by water, Sfântu Gheorghe appears — a fishing village set where the Danube's oldest branch flows into the Black Sea.

First attested
A village at the end of the waters
It is reached only by water, from Tulcea, Mahmudia or Murighiol. Here live the descendants of the Ukrainian fishermen, the “haholi”, and time flows to the rhythm of boats and reeds.

The oldest branch
The Sfântu Gheorghe branch is the oldest and most winding of the three, 112 km long. Fishing and reed harvesting remain the village's main occupations.
